We have prepared specialized grade-appropriate teacher packets for grade school visitors to the park

Kayaking is one of the most popular activities at the park.

Visitors have several choices:

Ranger-led Guided Kayak Tours
Be sure to verify Tour Times with the Park: 561-624-6950

Ranger-led guided kayak tours allow visitors to see and experience the wonders of the park in the company of an expert guide with knowledge of the flora and fauna of the estuary, Lake Worth Cove and Munyon Island. The ranger-led tours, which last approximately two hours and go out around high tide, are offered on a first come/first served basis. Call the Front Gate (561-624-6950) to confirm the tour time. Please keep the following in mind:

Arrive at least 30 minutes before the tour begins. The tours are often sold out, especially on weekends and during the winter, so plan to come to the park early to purchase your ticket and secure your space.

Wear sunscreen and a hat, and bring bottled water with you. Kayaking is a strenuous activity and may not be advisable for individuals with impairments of the back or shoulders. Bring nothing that might be harmed by salt water. You will get wet.

Children must be at least 13 years of age to be in a single kayak. There is no age minimum for a child who rides in a double kayak with his/her parent or guardian, but we rely on adults to use their discretion in determining if kayaking is suitable for their child.

We reserve the right to cancel tours due to bad weather or high winds.

Cost: $20 for a single kayak; $35 for a double kayak.

Independent Kayak Rental

Independent kayak rental is available at the Nature Center. Subject to availability, visitors may rent a kayak and explore designated areas of the estuarine habitat on their own. Important things to bear in mind:

Kayaking is great at high tide. At low tide, our estuary becomes a mud flat and kayaking is virtually impossible.

Cost:
Single$10/hour
$25 for a half-day (up to four hours)
$40 for a full day.
Double$15/hour
$40 for a half-day
(up to four hours)
$60 for a full day.

Kayaks may be rented from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. All kayaks must be returned no later than 4 p.m., irrespective of when they’re rented. Late fees will be assessed for any kayak returned after 4 p.m.

Deposit required: a MasterCard or Visa credit or debit card (which must be left on deposit at the Nature Center while you’re out in the kayak), or $100 cash.

Children must be at least 13 years of age to be in a single kayak. There is no age minimum for a child who rides in a double kayak with his/her parent or guardian, but we rely on adults to use their discretion in determining if kayaking is suitable for their child.

While the Nature Center has a limited number of children’s life vests, we don’t guarantee availability -- and by law small children must be in an approved personal flotation device. It will be up to the parents to supply the flotation device if none is available at the park.

SPECIAL NOTE:
Consider joining the Friend's of John D. MacArthur Beach State Park - You get a free rental each time you come to the park (about the same cost as a one day single kayak rental). And free parking!

Have your own kayak or canoe?

Of course, you’re welcome to bring your own kayak to the park and launch it from the public canoe/kayak launch. (Please ask at the Front Gate for directions to the launch site.)
