The Friends Staff

Cheryl HoughtelinFriends Executive Director
Originally from Pittsburgh, PA, Cheryl has spent her career in non-profit organizations, State Parks and the National Park Service. Cheryl oversees the Friends 501(c)(3) organization.
Janice KerberDirector of Education
Janice, a native of West Palm Beach and Palm Beach County School District teacher for over 20 years, was hired in April of 2011 as the Director of Education to enhance the education programs which utilize the new Pew Family Natural Science Education Classroom.
Pat SantyBeach Outfitters & Gift Shop Mgr
Pat became a volunteer when he retired from Hewlett Packard in 2009, and his background in retail sales led to a position as Manager of the Beach Outfitters and Gift Shop in 2011.

The Park Staff

Don Bergeron, Park Manager
A native Floridian, Don grew up enjoying our state’s great outdoors – in particular state parks. Prior to MacArthur Beach State Park, he volunteered and worked for the Florida Park Service at several other state parks. He is responsible for the overall management of our Park.
Pat Rash, Assistant Park Manager
Pat has been with our Park since 1996, moving here from the District 5 Construction Team. The Park staff, maintenance, programs and protection are his responsibility.
Lynn Desy, Administrative Assistant I
A volunteer since 2006, Lynn became the Administrative Assistant for the Park in 2010. Lynn handles pavilion rentals in addition to the Park administrative needs.
Art Carton, Park Services Specialist
Art has been at Park since 2004 when he moved from Ocala. Art oversees the Moonlight Over MacArthur and Bluegrass concerts, NatureScaping, and instructs for our Natural Science Education Program.
Lu Dodson, Park Services Specialist
 After 14 years on the road volunteering and working for various state and federal agencies, Lu has become our newest employee. Lu’s time here included Education Program, Animal Care, and Volunteer training and events.
Steve Desy, Park Ranger
Steve was born in coastal Maine and worked in heavy equipment construction for forty years before moving to Florida in 2008. Before becoming a Park Ranger in October, 2008, he served many volunteer hours.
Scott Duncan, Park Ranger
Scott was born and raised in Palm Beach County and has been coming to the Park his entire life. Scott is very knowledgeable regarding the sea turtles and sea grasses found at the Park.
David Gelb, Park Ranger
David grew up in Palm Beach County; a major career change from Financial Analyst to Park Ranger brought him to the staff.
Rob Matriscino, Park Ranger
Rob came to MacArthur in 2000, bringing skills in invasive/exotic plant removal, native plant identification and coastal geology. In his free time he enjoys surfing, and instructs the Park RECSkills Introduction to Surfing course.

Sarah Waddell,
Park Ranger
After completing a Park internship, Sarah’s knowledge, dedication and cheerfulness brought her onto our staff. Sarah was promoted to Park Ranger status in April of 2012.
Bill Wilson, Park Ranger
Bill began a new career with the Florida Park Service in 2006, after completing a 25-year career as a professional fire fighter. Bill is an avid kayaker and fisherman, and instructs the RECSkills Introduction to Kayak Fishing course.

Doug Sutherland, 
OPS Ranger
Doug began his Park Service career as a volunteer alongside his father Frost, and joined the Park staff in 2010.
Smith, Dallas
Dallas Smith, 
OPS Ranger
Dallas relocated to Palm Beach County and became a Park volunteer in 2012. Dallas is working as an OPS Ranger while pursuing a degree in Environmental Sciences from Palm Beach State College.
